WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words, where I answer the three questions below and leave a link to your own WWW post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Answer the questions below in the comments section!
The three Ws are:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you finish recently?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
What I’m currently reading:
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
What is more decadent than the Golden Age of Hollywood? This is the story of former “it girl” and bombshell Evelyn Hugo. She’s finally ready to spill all her secrets and dirty deeds from making her way to LA in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s. Not to mention those seven husbands along the way!
I’m not sure there are enough words in the English language to describe how much I’m loving this book. It’s easily going to be the next addition to my favorites shelf and I can’t wait to share my review with all of you + a recipe yet to be determined. We’ll be continuing my theme of meals from around the world and it’s looking like we’ll be having a Spanish or Cuban inspired dish. Review + Recipe to come this Friday in conjunction with a post for the same book with the Traveling Sisters blog as well! Be on the look out for their post because these ladies sure know how to pick ‘em!
Truth and Lies by Caroline Mitchell
Daughter of prolific husband-and-wife serial-killer team, DI Amy Winter receives a letter from one half of the notorious duo Lillian Grimes. Lillian also happens to be Amy’s biological mother. With the underlying mystery of a missing young girl, Amy must also face her own personal demons and her dark past.
I just started this one and it’s intriguing to say the absolute least. I love fresh takes on old tropes and this one coming from the daughter of a serial killing team is just that! This one draws the reader in right away and keeps the suspense taut and steady. It’s sure to have any reader racing to the finish!
What did I finish recently:
#FashionVictim by Amina Akhtar
Anya St. Clair has a new job as a PA for an amazing fashion magazine La Vie. She’s killing the fashion game, social media and her career is finally taking off. The last piece of the puzzle is to become BFFs with socialite and current obsession Sarah Taft. When a competition for a promotion is thrown on the table Anya swan dives off the deep end and the madness that ensues is wild.
This one really took me by surprise. It is chock full of dark, campy and ironic humor. It pokes fun at anyone and everyone and is Grade-A crazy pants from start to finish. While I don’t feel it was expertly executed across the board, this is another fresh take on a thriller I enjoyed overall! I read this one with the Traveling Sisters and it was such fun to discuss the ins and outs of this read.
Vanishing Girls (Detective Josie Quinn #1) by Lisa Regan
Josie Quinn has had a rough go of it. Suspended from the job that is her entire life, currently going through a divorce and now another girl has up and vanished. Embarking on an unsanctioned investigation all on her own Josie quickly uncovers that not everything is as it seems in the sleepy town of Denton, Pennsylvania. Can anyone be trusted? Read and find out!
This one was a bit slower to start for me but I think that’s generally inherent in a series. A lot of ground work and character development goes into creating an entire series versus a stand-alone book. However, the mystery was exciting and definitely propelled me towards the end. Josie is a no-nonsense MC and I really enjoyed a strong female lead. I am very much looking forward to continuing this series with the Traveling Friends.
What do you think you’ll read next:
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
Getting back to my fantasy roots we have an intriguing looking story about parallel London’s. Red, Grey, White and once upon a time, Black. Our MC is Kell – a smuggler servicing people who want a glimpse of a world they’ll never see, a dangerous hobby that results in an exchange gone awry. As Kell escapes to Grey London he meets Delilah Bard, after she saves him from a deadly enemy, Kell spirits her away to another world for a proper adventure.
The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager
When Emma was young she attended an over night camp for the first time. After their game Two Truths and a Lie ended Emma’s friends snuck away – never to be seen again. Now Emma is a rising start in the NY art scene. After her paintings catch the attention of the new wealthy owner of Camp Nightingale, Francesca Harris-White asks Emma to come back as a painting instructor. Emma takes the job – seeing it as an opportunity to try to find out what really happened to her friends. As things unfold it becomes clear to Emma that more sinister things are afoot.
