Blogger Recognition Award!

Thank you to Entertainingly Nerdy for the nomination! I’m also new to the blogging game and networking can be so important so I appreciate the recognition and nomination so much!

The Rules:

  • Thank the blogger that nominated you.
  • Write a post to show your award.
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Select other bloggers you want to give this award to.

The Beginning:

I’ve been on Goodreads forever (by forever, I mean since 2013) but I used it primarily to keep track of what I was reading and for the lists. Essentially, to find and read the exact same type of book over and over and over again. At the start of the new year, two of my best friends and I started an informal book club and I began reading new and different types of stories than I had been.

I mean, just look at these MOONBEAMS. Who wouldn’t want to read with them?

I made it my New Years Resolution to step away from the same stuff I’d been reading and really challenge myself and expand upon the stories I was absorbing. I started reading more reviews and looking for where my new tastes would fall. I found that not only had I been underutilizing all GR had to offer by way of books, but by way of the social aspect as well. I stumbled upon a few reviewers who were part of a group called The Traveling Sisters. This was a group of women, reading and reviewing together (mostly ARCs – advanced reading copies) and I felt inspired. I began requesting, reading and reviewing ARCs and requested joining their group. Around this same time they created another group called The Traveling Friends to read and review already released books with other women interested.

After reading, reviewing and contributing to the Traveling Sisters blog (Two Sisters Lost in a Coulee) I renewed my interest in the idea of a blog. My husband has forever said I should make a blog for all the stuff I cook (he even suggested I vlog – HAH film myself? No, thank you) but it always made me nervous. Putting yourself out there is a daunting task. However, the Traveling groups and responses to my reviews were so utterly positive and supportive that I couldn’t help but feel inspired. So now, here we are with my blog. I’m still learning and working out the kinks in my schedule but two of my biggest passions are reading and cooking and I’m thrilled by the positive response to pairing my recent reads with themed recipes based on the books I’m reviewing!

Husband appreciation post. The humor of tiny hands can not be overstated.

Advice to New Bloggers:

  • Honestly, this feels kind of rich for me to be giving advice considering I’ve been doing this for all of 20 seconds. So my advice is from one newbie to another. Compare and despair my friends! Honestly, this could be used in any facet of life. I found myself always teetering on the edge of making a blog but then someone else’s was so poignant, beautiful, thought-provoking or otherwise more amazing than mine could ever be. Don’t compare yourself to another blogger – what you have is unique. Yes, there are many book blogs out there, cooking blogs, fashion blogs, whatever blogs but there is only one you and that’s enough. Do it for you – not for anyone else. There’s a beautiful Chinese proverb that has always resonated with me: a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle. Just because another person shines doesn’t dampen your unique glow and you have a voice worthy of being heard.
  • Views, likes and follows do not equate to the strength of your voice. In my short time blogging I’m learning the importance of networking and interacting with others. It’s a wonderful social outlet but sometimes it’s hard not to get caught up in wanting all that positive feedback – but your voice and your message resonate with people differently and the number of followers you have doesn’t strengthen or weaken that voice or message.

My Nominees!

Full disclosure: I only brought my kindle on this vacation so shoutout to the Airbnb host for letting me steal this book for this picture.

As always, you have no obligation to participate in this tag. I’m working on my networking and interaction with other bloggers and want to help share the love!

Do you have any blogging advice that you were given or would like to give to others? Any tips or tricks to share with me – new to the blogging game? Drop me a note and let me know! Sharing is caring!!
