Welcome back to another edition of Falling Behind Fridays fellow readers! A weekly meme created by the Traveling Sisters that I join in with It’s All About the Thrill each week to highlight books we’ve fallen behind on reading! I hope everyone is having a fab-u-lous Friday and have great weekends full of reading ahead of them. I am finally catching up on a lot of my back logged books and it feels great! However, I’m still pretty behind on a few library books I have that I need to return so they’re on my shortest of short lists to finish up ASAP!
So this week I thought I’d feature Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell! I featured her upcoming book Watching You in our weekly Can’t Wait Wednesday post, which is an upcoming Traveling Sisters group read so I thought it fitting to feature another Jewell novel that I already have from the library! I’m trying to get to all these library books but I got a bit distracted with the Arc of the Scythe series – of which I just finished the second installment so keep an eye out for the review! Now that I’ve burned through these books I can get back on track with some reads I’ve really been looking forward to.
Then She Was Gone has been on my TBR list in Goodreads since May and I finally got around to borrowing it from my local library only to have life slap me right in the face with other, significantly less fun things than reading. I’ve taken a bit of a step back from the mystery / thriller binge I was on but I’m thrilled to have this one next on the docket! I’ve got my ENO hammock up and ready in the back yard and while it was 27 degrees in Dallas on Tuesday, this is Texas and weather means nothing and it’s slated to be sunny and 70 all weekend long [read: perfect reading weather].
She was fifteen, her mother’s
golden girl. She had her whole life ahead of her.
And then, in the blink of an eye, Ellie was gone.
It’s been ten years since Ellie
disappeared, but Laurel has never given up
hope of finding her daughter.
And then one day a charming and charismatic stranger called Floyd walks into a café and sweeps Laurel off her feet.
Before too long she’s staying the night at this house and being introduced to his nine year old daughter.
Poppy is precocious and pretty – and meeting her completely takes Laurel’s breath away.
Because Poppy is the spitting image of Ellie when she was that age.
And now all those unanswered questions that have haunted Laurel come flooding back.
What happened to Ellie? Where did she go?
Who still has secrets to hide?
I mean, A) I love past and present flashbacks, B) who isn’t immediately drawn in to the tale of a missing child and C) WTF did happen to Ellie, I need to know right meow! There’s something so satisfying about mystery novels and that’s just what I’m looking for so this one couldn’t come soon enough!
Have you read Then She Was Gone? If so, what did you think? What reads have you fallen behind on that you’re excited to read soon? Drop me a note in the comments and let me know!
