First thing is first y’all! Game of Thrones is back for it’s final season and I can barely handle myself. Honestly, the stress of worrying if this is going to turn into another Lost situation is real and I kind of wish I just had all the knowledge of how this was going to go instead of having to watch it week to week! Here’s to hoping the freakin’ pack survives. Anyway, I’ve recently finished The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald and it’s a doozie of an emotional read and it took me forever to get through because I was so invested. I’ll have that review up for y’all this week! Today I wanted to participate in another round of Top 5 Tuesday! This is a weekly meme hosted by Bionic Book Worm and it’s one of my favorites. This weeks topic is books you predict will be 5-star reads!
This one is a little dangerous for me if we’re being honest because I have a bad habit of hyping books up in my head and then being a little let down when they don’t live up to my lofty expectations. I’m very good at not romanticizing situations or placing too much importance on a given event. However, that doesn’t stay true for reading. I’ll see a book and the synopsis will grab me and then I’ll read a few glowing reviews and hype it up so much in my head there’s no where to go but down. But then there are the rare few books that end up exceeding my expectations, and isn’t that the dream!
The Book of Essie by Meghan MacLean Weir
Y’ALLLLLLLLLLL, this has been on my TBR 5-EVER!!! It’s my own fault for not picking it up and honestly I just need to buy it because it always has 86 million holds at the library. I stumbled upon this book last year and not only do I love the cover but the story of the young daughter of an evangelical reality TV family getting pregnant and navigating through that immediately snagged my attention. I already feel a deep connection to Essie and I know it’s going to get me right in the heart. I’ll definitely be *finally* picking this up sooner rather than later because I can feel in my bones it’s gonna be a 5-star read.
What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon
You know, for someone who doesn’t read much romance these days I sure am a sucker for a good romantic read. With all these stunning spring days I’m just in the *mood* for something mushy and heart felt. So tickle me pink when I stumbled across this yesterday looking at the “most read” lists on Goodreads. Not only is there romance, but there’s time travel and historical fiction at play here too. This one seems like a multi-faceted read that’s already got stellar reviews, having only been released in March.
Saving Meghan by D.J. Palmer
This baby was just released on April 9th and I’ve still got the ARC sitting neatly on my NetGalley ‘to read’ shelf. I was immediately sucked into the synopsis of this one and given the hype around Gypsy Rose and the HBO documentary that just came out, munchausen by proxy is in the news a lot these days. I found Gypsy’s story to be riveting and I remember when it was all coming to light a couple of years ago. It’s such a fascinating and devastatingly sad disease that I was already drawn into this read before I’d even finished the synopsis. I think this one is going to fly by for me and I’m definitely predicting those 5 stars.
The Toll by Neal Shusterman
This baby was completed in March and we still don’t even have a cover. WHY SHU, WHY!? But this might be my most anticipated upcoming read! I loved the first two books in this series and the ending to Thunderhead was such an intense bombshell that I literally can’t get my hands on the final book fast enough. I know I’m going to pre-order this baby so that it’s sitting on my front porch on release day and then I’ll immediately fly through it. I’m also so so sure that it’s going to get literally all the stars 5-ever from me so I need Shusterman to hurry it on up and release the dang thing!
Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark
Muh girls! Kilgariff and Hardstark are the hosts of one of my favorite podcasts, My Favorite Murder. If you’re a true-crime fan and you haven’t listened to this one I highly suggest it. Both ladies are incredibly accessible and so much fun to listen to. I was thrilled to see they’re coming out with a book because it combines two of my favorite things: Karen and Georgia and reading! Focusing not just on true crime, but being unapologetically yourself, and the importance of mental health this baby is right up my alley. Since I already love so much of what they do, I have little doubt this one is going to knock it out of the park.
Are any of these books on your list / have you read them? What did you think? What are some anticipated reads you’re sure will be 5-stars? Drop me a note in the comments and let me know!
I’m completely with you on The Book of Essie. I have been wanting to read it since it came out and I just haven’t. I have a great feeling about it!

Great post!
I haven’t read any of the books on your list, but they sound interesting. Such a fan of Game of Thrones too! Super curious as well for how that series is going to end. So many great series are ending this year.
I didn’t read much in March. I am currently reading In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. So far it’s pretty good.

I’ve read very little so far, but I can tell from the little that I’ve read that it’s going to be a really great thriller.
