Top 3 Thursday: Favorite Backlist Reads!

As I mentioned in a few of my previous posts, I'm a SHEEP when it comes to reading. I always find myself looking at my TBR saying "you know, I'm gonna read this book that's been sitting here rejected for 56 million years" and then I see a shiny new release that all my GR and blogging friends are reading and I toss that sentiment to the wind and board the hype-train. Leaving these non-new releases sitting sad and alone, when they deserve to shine too! So tickle-me-pink when I see that today's Top 3 Thursday post is all about our favorite backlist reads from 2019!

Top 5 Wednesday: Books You Thought You’d Hate, but Ended Up Loving!

I swear that the week after a vacation is the slowest dang thing that has ever existed. I need to start making sure that when I go on vacation it bleeds into two separate weeks so I can prolong the amount of time it takes me to have to complete a full week of work. This has been bruuuutal y'all. However, it's always nice to get back into a routine and I've been doing a bunch of reading so I'm not too upset about it. As I mentioned earlier this week I'm making a Thai Curry dish to pair with my Behind Her Eyes review which I'll be posting on Friday, so keep an eye out! For today, I wanted to participate in Top 5 Wednesday!

Top 5 Wednesday, like all the other memes I do is actually a Goodreads group rather than a blog! Different "top 5" topics are discussed every week and it's a super fun way to revisit and share books you've already read with readers. I definitely suggest checking out the group if you're into these kinds of posts! This week the topic is "books you thought you'd hate but ended up loving"! This one is actually pretty hard for me (but IDKKK I feel like I say that all the time) because I generally don't read books I think I'll hate. So I'm going for more of a "books I was less enthusiastic about reading but ended up loving" vibe.

Top 10 Tuesday: Favorite Couples!

Here we are, Monday Part 2, we have arrived...but hey, at least it ain't Monday Part 1! So I actually don't think I've ever participated in the Top 10 Tuesday meme before today. For some reason this one stresses me out a little. I get kind of stuck in a loop with my suggestions for things and I always felt a little intimidated by having to come up with ten items for this meme. However today I thought, why not - lets give it a shot!

Top 10 Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Artsy Reader and much like the other fun list memes, there are ever changing topics that explore different book related content! This weeks topic is "favorite couples". A bit about me first: I don't read a lot of straight romance. Most of the romance-esc books I read are from a few years ago and I've really shifted my reading in the past year. So I'm going to shake things up and not just going to do favorite romantic couples, but my top ten favorite coupling of characters (including friendship), so off we go!

The Bear and the Nightingale Review + Zharkoye (AKA Russian Beef Stew) Recipe!

So, full disclosure ya'll. I feel pretty #swag in the kitchen, I've worked really hard and honed my cooking skills over the last 14 or so years. It's been something I've been passionate about since early high-school and a hobby and skill I've been cultivating a long time. What I am #GARBAGE at is baking. I just do not have the patience for it. Cooking to me is easy peasy, you can eye-ball amounts, you can tailor it to your tastes, you can take the basics of a recipe and make it all your own.

That is however, definitely NOT the case with baking. The science that goes into baking, the finesse and preciseness of baking has just always been lost on me. Now, I'm not saying I can't bake anything because I can follow a recipe as well as the next person, however, I mentioned wanting to make Russian honey-cake and I failed miserably at this. It requires cooking 8 thin cakes and making frosting, layering everything, coating it - IDK ya'll but I ruined it.  So you're not getting a recipe for that because...well, I ruined it. What you are getting a recipe for is Zharkoye, a Russian beef stew! However, that's after our review for The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden!!

Top 5 Tuesday: Badass Female Characters!

Ya'll, I can not get enough of this topic! One of the tropes I love the most in reading is women who overcome adversity - and in general, strong and amazing female leads. I don't know if it's just my general passion for women and their strength, or because the entertainment industry is so dominated by men. Either way, strong female characters are a MUST for me. It's so refreshing that there's so many to find in books these days, and I look forward to seeing more and more of this in the future. So, obviously, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to participate in this topic so you're getting TWO posts in ONE day! T5T is a weekly meme hosted by Bionic Book Worm where different topics are explored. if you haven’t checked out her weekly prompts you definitely should – they’re super fun!

Top 5 Tuesday: Books That Should Be Movies!

It's Tuesday, which means only one good thing: it isn't Monday! It also means it's time for another round of Top 5 Tuesday. T5T is a weekly meme hosted by Bionic Book Worm where different topics are explored. This weeks topic is "books that need to be made into movies"! If you haven't checked out her weekly prompts you definitely should - they're super fun!

So I wouldn't call myself particularly into movies and TV. However, I am also not someone who says I don't like them either. I'm just a fan of good stories and well made entertainment. Whether that be in my favorite form (books) or in movies or TV, I'm not a stickler about it. What I am a stickler about is book to film adaptations. Most of the time, they're simply just not as good. You can't get the range of detail and finesse into a movie that you can into a book. HOWEVER, there's also something so magical about seeing something you've loved in a book come to life on the screen. *Obviously, it can also be terrible if it's done horribly (looking @ u, directors of My Sisters Keeper) and they miss the whole point of the book. But when it's done well (GoT 5Ever) it's a real thrill to relive a story through the screen. So without further ado, here are the books I think should be made into movies!

Top 5 Tuesday: Books you NEED to read in 2019!

Top 5 Tuesday is a meme hosted by Bionic Book Worm where different topics are explored each week. Go check out her list this week because there are some great 2019 reads on there! Remember if you participate in the meme to link her back!  It's only the second day of the week and I feel like… Continue reading Top 5 Tuesday: Books you NEED to read in 2019!
