Book Tag: Who Am I? BACK! That’s who.

Well, ok, sort of. But ladies and gentlemen who have been eagerly (cough, that’s what I’m telling myself, cough) waiting for me to return to the blog game: here I am! I swear I am alive, but you wouldn’t know it thanks to my giant hiatus. It’s not been great for my reading but it has been great for my self care! I can’t say I’m jumping back into blogging and reading at the same rate I was before, it was a bit overwhelming in the most overwhelming time of my life but I’ve been actively missing this community and all the books I’ve not been reading. My husband and I are moving to New Mexico at the end of August, I’m taking an impromptu trip to Spain two weeks before the move to visit my best friend, we’re going to Colorado in two weeks and my husbands PhD defense is next month. So life is a whirlwind but it’s all been exciting and positive because we finally have a house and we’re finally going to live in the mountains!!

Anywho, I don’t know what anyone else considers a reading slump but hell if I haven’t been in the mother of all slumps. I’ve been so stinkin’ busy non-stop that I’ve just not had the time or dedication to put into reading and it’s honestly been a real drag. I’m behind on a lot of reviews so keep an eye out! While they might not be coming at the same rate for a couple more months until we get settled I’m back on this band wagon and I’m really excited to get back into blogging. I thought I’d ease my way in with a fun book tag I saw on Siobhan’s book blog!

If you were a book genre, which would you be?

Don’t think that in my absence I’ve become any less redundant but why do these always start out with the hardest questions! I think while I love mystery/thriller novels, I myself am an open book *PUNS PEOPLE, I’M BRINGING YOU GREAT PUNS*. I’d probably go with fantasy with a strong romantic subplot at this point in my life but overall probably contemporary. My life, as I mentioned, is a wild ride right now and everything is up in the air so I feel like that fits in with fantasy. Whereas normally, I’m a creature of habit that thrives on routine. But! I’ve always considered myself a bit of a *romantic* so gotta throw that in there.

What villain from a book do you most identify with?

I think maybe Jason 2 from Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. It’s an interesting choice since Jason 1 and Jason 2 are essentially the same people (but are they!?). However, I think his story is really sad and the choices he makes that negatively affect Jason 1 are because he realizes he made the wrong choices and chose the wrong path of fame/fortune instead of love and contentment and that hits me right on in the feels.

What protagonist are you most similar to?

Forkin’ hell, this is hard because it feels boastful to talk about who I’m most similar to because the protagonists I can think of are all waaaay more bad ass than I am. But I guess I’d maybe say Citra from the Arc of a Scythe series. She’s empathetic and firey, both of which I like to think that I am. Gleaning (killing) people is such a heavy burden and I really connect with the way she executes her duties (ANOTHER PUN FOR YA).

What book did you connect with in the past, but no longer do?

Oh man, any number of YA angst-ridden books. That’s not to say that all YA is all angst (obviously I just listed a YA series in the question above this) but MAN when I was in high-school did I looooove a book fraught with all the “poor me, my life is so hard” vibes. Coming to the top of my head would be the Twilight series. Which is honestly ridiculous because I’ve literally never been a “meek, mousy” person but I found myself really drawn to Bella and her struggles which makes me cringe like nobody’s business. Side note: I did try re-reading it recently and couldn’t get past 30 pages because my eyeballs are permanently stuck in the top of my head now. 

What recent book that you’ve read would you like to be a character in?

All the recent books I’ve read are either a) not that good or b) would be horrible to be a part of because they’re scary. So instead of doing a *recent* book I’ll say that I’d love to be a character in The Bargainer Series! I’m not sure I’d want to be a main character because there’s a lot of war, violence and negative things that befall the main characters but the world that Thalassa built is beautiful!

How does your reading show off your personality?

I think just based on my willingness to read and dive into anything with a fully open mind and heart. I don’t nix certain genres and I don’t shy away from things that feel like they’re outside of what I’d normally read. I try to view life through as many perspectives as possible so I want to read as many different types of books as possible.

What is a book that taught you something about yourself?

*drum roll please* The freakin’ Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo!!! Always and forever! This book taught me lessons about love, life, being who you want to be and accepting who you are. Giving yourself the grace to make mistakes, accepting that they lead you on a path that is in your control to adjust. It taught me to put love above everything else – not just romantic love, but the love and bonds of friendship and family. I could go on FOR ACTUAL YEARS about how much I love this book.
